I am very much looking forward to this conference. I am presenting on using wikis and blogs for classes and hopefully we get more bloggers, wiki-ites and tweeters out there. If you haven’t yet booked the link is here.
I look forward to seeing everyone and to going to some inspiring presentations.
We’re at the pointy end of the year now. It has become obvious that we are time poor and have so much to do in this little time that we have. I was wondering if there was a better way to handle the whole revision thing, when I remembered that if students were using the blogs and wikis that I had set up for them they would be able to use this to revise. This year’s students do not seem to be taking up this opportunity and this has impacted on teachers now feeling that they have little time to get around to every student to check on their revision progress.
I wonder if this is happening elsewhere. I need to reflect on the way that I have used blogs and wikis this year to see if I can work out why students at year 12 are not using them. I have shown them in class and have given them all slips with the addresses on there. Only a very small number have said that they would use it. It may have something to do with the particular group, they aren’t doing any study outside of school anyway, they are happy to tell me. Or maybe I could rethink the content. Next year I would like to trial putting the videos of lessons from the Smartboard up there and also podcasting discussions on their topics. This will be an ongoing project. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate them.
