Shakespeare can be challenging to learn and teach at times and we have to constantly rethink ways to make it relevant and interesting. I am trying out tools that I think I might ask my students to use in the attempt to do some creative responses to Macbeth. At a discussion with the year 10 teachers at St Margaret’s School who we are a brother school to, we thought that we might try Glogster as there is an educational version which schools can use.
I do not like to ask students to do anything that I haven’t tried to do myself so I gave it a go. Here’s my first attempt for Macbeth, although I have used it before, a few years ago. What I am looking for is a creative response that shows an understanding of the key themes or ideas and presents them in visual form. I have not yet written the rubric, my trial was to come first, but that is my next job. So far, it is an easy and quick way to do the task; it was a minor assessment piece, not a major one, so I did not want them to have to spend more than two lessons on it. Oh, I also created an Animoto video which I uploaded onto YouTube to embed into the glogster. Too much fun!
Thanks for sharing this – it looks like an interesting resource, and a great way for a teacher to introduce a new text, or for the students to revise / consolidate their understanding.
